Blogging: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Blogging. What is the point really? Is it something that is worth while, or are the people who blog just wasting time? I have tried to blog before, I never got many readers, but then again it was a blog about my pregnancy for my friends and family to read. I wasn't really trying to reach a wide audience. It made me feel better about the things I was going through, and sometimes it made me feel a little more normal during a time where very few women feel normal. I also have several friends who blog. One blogs about her volunteering that she does, another on her life with three boys, and still another blogs about the things she bakes. I am not sure how many people read the blogs my friends write, but I know I was inspired to volunteer, and I laugh at the trouble my friend's sons get into, and my mouth waters when I read about all the yummy things my other friend has baked. Blogging is a way to find out that you are not alone in the things you like to do or are going through in life. You can do it as an anonymous person so that the world doesn't really have to know its you that is going through your life event. Blogging allows you to share your beautiful little pearls of wisdom with the world.

Like with all things beautiful it often lies among a bunch of junk. Because you cannot monitor what is said in blogs, there can be a lot of hatred and ignorance that is spread through them. I am sure that any one of us can look up blogs on religion and we will find several that spew hatred for Islam. If you look up any ethnic group, you will be sure to find derogatory speeches on how the blogger's ethnic group is superior to any other. Because the Internet is so prevalent in our lives now, children of all ages are reading these messages, and it gives those who are so inclined to teach hatred in a whole new way. While each of us is allowed our opinions, quite a few of these blogs may encourage violence or other acts, which impressionable people may in turn act on. In cases like this, I feel that while everyone has a right to say what they want, whether I agree with it or not, not everyone should have access to reach as many people as they do with blogging
